Bakery Interns

Bakery Interns

The bakery sector in Denmark stands as a hallmark of tradition, innovation, and quality, contributing significantly to both the local culture and the economy. Renowned for its artisan breads, pastries, and an array of confectioneries, Danish bakeries are a testament to the country’s rich culinary heritage. However, like many industries globally, the Danish bakery sector faces its own set of challenges, with labor shortages being a prominent issue. The demand for skilled bakers and pastry chefs has surged, driven by the industry’s growth and the increasing complexity of bakery products that require specialized skills.

The labor shortage in the Danish bakery sector is multifaceted, influenced by factors such as an aging workforce, a disconnect between the skills taught in educational institutions and those required by the industry, and the physically demanding nature of bakery work that may deter younger generations. These challenges underscore the need for innovative solutions to attract and retain talent within the sector.

By integrating interns into your bakery, you open the door to nurturing future specialists. Additionally, this strategy promotes cultural exchange and facilitates the global dissemination of Denmark’s esteemed bakery traditions.

Bixter operates within legal parameters during its recruitment activities by connecting employers seeking well-educated, motivated, affordable, and stable workers with young English-speaking professionals from over 30 countries worldwide. The term “intern” refers to individuals aged between 20-35 years old, currently undertaking or having recently completed a higher education in a field related to the internship opportunity.

There’s a common misconception that an “International intern” is similar to an average employee or university intern. However, this role demands a more thorough understanding of the Migration service requirements and offers additional benefits for employers ready to welcome international interns.

The Danish Migration Service has introduced a visa category for Non-EU nationals, designed as a work and residence permit under the “Internship” category. This policy enables young professionals to undertake further in-company training in Denmark for up to 1,5 years.

This option is aimed at candidates with ongoing or completed degrees or tertiary education in their home country, possessing sufficient English/German language skills to gain further practical experience in their field.

Bixter is committed to promoting this opportunity through international agents and visits to top-selected universities in Non-EU countries, encouraging students to participate.

In general, the average waiting time for interns to arrive is about 2 – 2,5 months, primarily because of the required visa processing time.

Therefore, it’s essential for companies to consider this waiting period and incorporate it into their recruitment planning. Adopting a pragmatic attitude, not just by acknowledging this reality but by factoring in the visa processing time, will enable companies to secure qualified interns in a timely fashion while complying with all relevant regulations and procedures.

Interns typically work 37 hours per week, according to industry standards. An intern might occasionally take overtimes. Please note that long or frequent overtimes for interns will not be in conformity with the requirements of their work and residence permit, as the normal workweek in these circumstances is not 37 hours.

In order to host Non-EU interns, adequate living conditions need to be provided by employers for a monthly rent. The rent needs to be affordable for the interns, as they will be paying it from their monthly allowance.
