General profile of interns and their visa in Denmark

Bixter specializes in connecting Danish businesses with highly qualified, English-speaking professionals from over 30 countries. Our candidates are not just skilled; they come with relevant work experience and academic credentials, holding diplomas or Bachelor’s degrees in their fields.

We operate within the legal framework set by the Danish Migration Service, providing work and residence permits under specific visa categories for Non-EU nationals. These categories allow for experienced professionals from outside the EU to work in Denmark, with options to extend their visas.

Ready to enrich your team with international expertise? Contact us for a straightforward guide on hiring Non-EU skilled workers.

When can you expect your international intern to arrive?

It is important to note that the average waiting period for the arrival of an employee is typically around 1,5 months. This is primarily due to the mandatory visa processing time. Waiting time for work and residence permit remains the same even if an employee applies for the visa from Denmark.

Please note that employees from Non-EU countries aren’t allowed to start working until the appropriate work and residence permit is issued to your place.

As a result, it is crucial for companies to plan ahead and account for this waiting period when organizing their recruitment process. By taking a pragmatic approach and considering the necessary visa processing time, companies can ensure that they are able to receive qualified workers in a timely manner, while also adhering to all relevant regulations and procedures.

Working hours

In Denmark, the standard workweek for employees is set at 37 hours. This framework also offers the flexibility for overtime work, accommodating the varying needs of businesses and the aspirations of employees seeking additional work hours. Importantly, both the base salary and any overtime compensation are governed by Danish legislation. This ensures a fair and regulated approach to remuneration, safeguarding the rights of employees and providing clear guidelines for employers.

Accommodation Guidelines

In order to host Non-EU interns, adequate living conditions need to be provided by employers for a monthly rent. The rent needs to be affordable for the interns, as they will be paying it from their monthly allowance.

  • Single room (in rare cases interns can be placed together in one room)
Furnished room with a sleeping bed, closet, chair, table, appropriate lighting
  • Toilet and shower facilities
