Denmark Takes the Next Step Towards Resuming Green Sector Internships

The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) has announced that it has resumed processing a number of previously suspended applications for internships in the green sector, as well as applications for herdsmen and farm managers.

The announcement follows the temporary suspension introduced in April 2026, when SIRI paused processing of certain applications while investigating concerns about the authenticity of educational documentation submitted by applicants from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. The review was carried out in cooperation with the Danish National ID Centre (NIDC).

The latest update means that many affected applications can now continue through the normal assessment process.

Why Were Applications Suspended?

Earlier this year, SIRI temporarily suspended a number of applications in order to review circumstances that could affect case processing. This included checking the authenticity of applicants’ educational documents in collaboration with the Danish National ID Centre (NIDC), among others.

NIDC has now reported back to SIRI. Based on this, SIRI can resume case processing in a large portion of the affected cases, while a smaller portion remains unresolved.

What Does the New Announcement Mean?

The resumption of case processing is positive news for everyone involved in international agricultural internship programs.

For host companies, it provides greater certainty that applications which have been waiting for review can once again move forward.

For universities and educational partners, it signals that Denmark continues to support structured international internship pathways while maintaining high standards for document verification.

For candidates, it means that many applications will once again be assessed individually under SIRI’s normal procedures rather than remaining on hold.

It is important to note that the announcement refers to a number of cases, meaning that not every previously suspended application will necessarily be processed immediately. Individual assessments will continue according to SIRI’s updated procedures.

What Happens Next?

If your application was one of the cases that was suspended, you do not need to take any action.

At Bixter, we continuously monitor the progress of all residence permit applications we manage. As SIRI resumes case processing, our team will review the status of each affected application and contact the relevant candidates directly with updates about their individual case and any information we receive regarding expected processing times.

Although case processing has resumed, this does not mean that a decision will be made immediately. SIRI will continue to assess each application individually and complete all necessary steps in the process. Depending on the case, this may include requesting additional documentation, asking for further information, or carrying out other procedural steps before a final decision is made.

If SIRI requires any additional information from you, the Bixter team will guide you through the process and explain what is needed. Until then, there is no action required from your side.

What This Means for Danish Agriculture

International trainees have become an important part of knowledge exchange and skills development within Danish agriculture. Structured internship programs allow students and recent graduates to gain practical experience while supporting farms during periods when qualified talent is difficult to find.

Maintaining confidence in these programs requires both efficient processing and strong verification procedures. By resuming selected cases after additional investigation, SIRI is balancing the need for programme integrity with the continued operation of Denmark’s international internship system.

Bixter’s Perspective

At Bixter, we welcome every step that creates greater clarity and predictability for international internship programs.

For nearly two decades, we have worked closely with host companies, universities, and candidates to build structured pathways into agriculture across Europe. Preparation, documentation, and transparency remain essential parts of that process.

We will continue following updates from the Danish authorities and provide guidance to our partners whenever new information becomes available.
