Updates on application processing and upcoming compliance checks

Bixter attended a meeting with SIRI on 30 September 2026, where we received updates on intern applications, herdsmen and upcoming compliance checks. We prioritise dialogue with the authorities so we can keep host companies informed and follow up on our customers’ cases.

Decisions expected in October and November

SIRI is carrying out the final checks on relevant educational institutions in Africa. Many decisions are therefore expected in October and November on intern applications that have been on hold for a long time.

This is a positive development for host companies waiting for an intern. The outcome and processing time of each case still depend on SIRI’s assessment.

Bixter is following up on our customers’ applications and will contact them when there is news about their case.

Increased compliance checks from 2 November

SIRI will establish a new Centre for Compliance Checks on 2 November 2026. There will be greater focus on whether pay, working hours, supplements, holidays and other employment conditions are maintained throughout the period of residence.

For interns, employment conditions must be adjusted as changes to the applicable collective agreement take effect. SIRI emphasised that correcting an error afterwards does not, in itself, guarantee that the residence permit can be retained.

For herdsmen, the agreed pay and other conditions on which the permit is based must be maintained. Any pay adjustments must be assessed against the contract and the applicable collective agreement.

Remember e-Boks and response deadlines

Interns and employees must regularly check their e-Boks and respond to enquiries from SIRI on time. Failure to respond or to meet the permit’s conditions may lead to the residence permit being revoked.
