Notion of “Trainee” comprises profile of the person in the age range 20-35 y.o., with completed Bachelor’s degree in the specialization, related to the “Traineeship place”, from the higher educational institutions, recognized and accredited by the Ministry of Education in Germany.

Many may confuse “Trainee” from Non-EU  with an average employee or university intern, but in fact it requires a deeper look from the side of Migration service requirements, as well as benefits for the employer willing to accept Non-EU trainees.

German Migration service has developed a visa category for Non-EU nationals as work and residence permit, which is outlined in § 16a AufenthG (Weiterbildung) + § 8 Abs. 1 BeschV (Betriebliche Aus- und Weiterbildung. These regulations in the Skilled Immigration Act allow graduates from Non-EU countries to receive further in-company training in Germany with a duration of 1 year.

This option is intended for professionals with a university degree to gain further on-hand experience in their field of expertise.

Hereby, Bixter promotes this opportunity with the help of international agents and ocular visits to the top-selected universities in Non-EU countries and encourages graduates to participate.

It is important to note that the average waiting period for the arrival of trainees is typically around one and a half months. This is primarily due to the mandatory visa processing time.

As a result, it is crucial for companies to plan ahead and account for this waiting period when organizing their recruitment process. By taking a pragmatic approach and considering the necessary visa processing time, companies can ensure that they are able to receive qualified trainees in a timely manner, while also adhering to all relevant regulations and procedures.

According to the industry standards, international trainees are expected to work for a typical duration of 40 hours per week.

At Bixter, we recognize that hosting an overseas trainee offers an exceptional opportunity for cultural exchange. It also requires that rules set by local Immigration services are respected by both parties.

Please note that trainees can only begin working once their work and residence permit has been attached to the host employer’s business. Compliance with this requirement is crucial to meet legal obligations and ensure a smooth recruitment process. Our experts will offer detailed guidance regarding the updated migration legislation and will keep you updated if any changes are implemented.
